Thursday April 23: We will meet at Starbucks on Bethany and 75 [1212 E. Bethany Dr., Allen, TX, 75002] at 8:00AM. Kick stands up at 9:00 AM. This allows the guys coming over from Ft Worth a little time to make it over to the rest of us.

It is 321 Miles from the starting location to the Ozark Inn. This is where we will stay at the end of the day on Thursday evening. Everyone should have their reservations in place. If not please call them and get that squared away ASAP. Make sure you tell them you are with Jerry James so that they know to put us all as close as possible to each other. The information for the hotel is listed below. I have made a route in both Mapsource and MS Streets & Trips. These can be found here; MS Streets & Trips file. The Mapsource file will be e-mailed to everyone.

Ozark Inn

Friday April 24: The group will eat breakfast and we will hit the road at 9AM. We will do 302 miles and a bunch of that will be in the fun stuff (i.e. push mt and other twisty roads) I think we will make it a goal to eat lunch in Mountain Home. There is a nice town square and we should be able to find something decent to eat there. We will end the day at our favorite little hotel in Eureka Springs. They have a great Italian restaurant with 100 feet of the hotel that serves pretty good food. Just don’t piss off the waiter? / Waitress.. hehehe Today’s route is here: MS Streets & Trips file. Last note please make sure you have made reservations at the Edelweiss, again mention my name to get the rooms together

Edelweiss Inn

Saturday April 25: KSU at 8AM. We will shoot over towards Jasper and do the Cliff House Inn for Brunch. Then we will ride 7, 16 and more on our way back to Ozark. This will be another 300 mile day. This will be another fun day of good and twisty roads. Today’s route is here: MS Streets & Trips file

Sunday April 26: KSU at 8AM. We will hit the road for the long journey home. We will probably eat in Idabel for lunch. They have a great catfish place that we seem to stop at every time we are in the area. The fish is very good. The total miles for the rip should be somewhere around 1200+ for the 4 days with more twisty roads than you can shake a stick at. It will be a BLAST! Today’s route is here: MS Streets & Trips file

Change of Plans – Deals Gap here we come!

Well we were scheduled to head out for Colorado on May 24th. However after making some calls to the Colorado tourism people, and checking the weather. It seems that Colorado has stayed cold so far this season. Since we are camping we decided that we might want to change our plans. The weather forecast for the next 10 days has the evening lows in the low 30’s. That is just to damn cold to camp.

So today we decided to change our plans and head east. We will be heading to Deals Gap, the Barber motorsports museum, 29 Dreams and the TWO camp grounds. We will then come back thru Arkansas and Push Mountain then thru Eureka Springs. Should put on a good 2500 miles or so.

Here are the tentative plans for the trip.

May 24 – May 31: Deals Gap – Barbers Motorsports – Arkansas

Saturday May 24: Plano to Greenville, MS (416M) – See Map
This day would take us over to Minneola for breakfast and then up thru East Texas on the route that we took after the Marshall Pie run. Then jump up and head over to the Mississippi Delta town of Greenville, MS

Sunday May 25: Greenville to 29 Dreams Campground (317M) – See Map
This would be a pretty easy day as we make our way to the motorcycle camp ground of 29 dreams. There is food and music. This place looks pretty cool.

Monday May 26: 29 Dreams to Barber to Suches, GA (TWO camp grounds) (248M) – See Map
We will visit the museum in the morning then we ride up thru beautiful North Georgia to the TWO camp ground. This is where we stayed a few years ago on our trip to the gap. Very nice camp ground with food. We should be able to stop at the Amicalola Falls State Park

Tuesday May 27: Suches, GA to Deals Gap – Smokey Mountain Loop – (299M)
This is a loop of the Great Smokey Mountain State Park. This will be new to us. This could be the prettiest day of all. Great picture taking ride.

Wednesday May 28: Suches, GA – Blue Ridge Parkway – Deals Gap Camping – (244M)
This route will take us over to the Blue Ridge Parkway and around Piscah national Forest. We will camp at the Deals Gap Camp ground.

Thursday May 29: Deals Gap Camping – Cherohala Skyway – Slab to Memphis. (493M)
This day will start off on the skyway. This will be a great way to start the day. The rest of the day will be spent making some miles and ending up in Marion Arkansas at the KOA.

Friday May 30: Marion, AR to Push Mountain – Eureka Springs. (301M)
We will get up and head to the beautiful roads in Arkansas. We will be doing Push Mountain before arriving at the Eureka Springs KOA.

Saturday May 31: Eureka Springs to the house. (412M)
We have done this route a number of times. This is a great way to end the trip and will give us the chance to hang out and relax on Sunday June 1

The routes above come in at 2730 Miles for the trip. We would hit a number of states and ride on some of the most famous roads in America. The other plus is the weather should be comfortable for camping.

Colorado Trip: May 24 – June 1, 2008

We have started to prepare for this years big motorcycle journey. We thought we would do this over Memorial Day weekend so that we could actually have 9 days available and only costing those of us who work, 4 days vacation. We have not been back on the bike since 2005 so we are really looking forward to the trip. Nothing has been set in stone and we are in the process of getting places to stay and that sort of thing. Here is the plan. (I want to make sure that this time we take our time, enjoy the scenery and take plenty of pictures.)

Looks like the group will be Jamie & I (Triumph Trophy 900), Rob (BMW 1200GT) and Jackie (BMW 1200RT)

We are off to Big Bend

This evening a couple of the guys came over and helped me load up the bikes and get stuff put into the truck. We are all packed and ready to go. It looks like I will leave from work and pick up my brother and his wife in Weatherford on Wednesday evening.

Rob is leaving on the GT around 1PM tomorrow afternoon and meet us in Abilene at the Super 8. We are ready to go and starting to get really excited. I have never been down to big bend so I am looking forward to it. I will have a ride report ready for everyone sometime next week.

If you are headed to the STN region 2 meet we will see you all there. Ride safe everyone!

Sport Region #2: April 11-14, 2008

This year Sport-Touring.Net region 2 meet is being held in Alpine Texas on April 11-14, 2008. Click on the link above to RSVP and to get more details.

Rocketbunny has posted a couple of routes.

A couple of options here.
Davis Mountains + River Road – 320 miles – Davis Mountains loop to Presidio for lunch, to 170 along the Rio Grande. Return to Alpine via 118.
Big Bend Park Tour – 311 miles – 118 to Big Bend Park, stops at Santa Elena Canyon, Main Visitor’s Center, and Rio Grande Village (3 out and back rides, optional)

Our group from North Texas is heading that way. So far we have as confirmed for the trip: Jerry, Vern & Shelly, Rob, Jackie and Bo. The jury is still out on the following; Dave & Traci, Pete, Herman and Paul.

We have decided to camp during our trip to Alpine. We will be staying at the Lost Alaskan RV Park. It is just down the road from the meet hotel. Vern, Shelly and myself will be loading up the bikes on the trailer and heading down that direction on the evening of April 9th. We will probably stay in Abilene that evening. The next day April 10th we will hit the road and travel the remaining 320 miles to Alpine. Rob has said he will probably meet us in Abilene that evening as he has the entire day off and we can’t leave until after work. This means we will not get to Abilene until after dark. The rest of the gang will be riding up to Alpine on Thursday. By the time they get there, we hope to have the tent set up with the BBQ grill fired up and the margarita machine working overtime.

On Friday we will get up have breakfast and do the Big bend loop. This will be a 300+ mile day and should be a wonderful ride. I am hoping someone in our group has the route on GPS file already. If not I will make one up in a week or so. The loop should be something like the route below.

The next day (Saturday) I think we will do the Fort Davis loop and check out the observatory. This will be a short 140 mile day. This allows for people to relax on Saturday before the long ride home on Sunday. The route will look something like this.

Sunday morning we will get up pretty early and pack up camp and head back to Big D… Ugh! This should be a great trip. I have never been in that part of Texas and I am really looking forward to the weekend.

Arkansas Fall Colors Ride – Oct 26-28 2007

We decided that we had to go to Arkansas one more time before the year ended. We are leaving the morning of the 26th. We will ride to Eureka Springs via Mena and the pg tail. We are staying at Ozark Swiss Inn

There is a big BMW group from North Texas heading up there as well. We are staying across the street from them. Should be a fun weekend. We are hoping to get to see some of the leaves changing. We will ride from Eureka Springs on Saturday and ride 123, 7 and anything else that seems fun. We will end up in Hot Springs at the Best Western on Saturday evening.

Sunday we will get up and head back to Dallas. Should be a fun weekend.
